At Timbercreek, our cabins in Wears Valley are very convenient to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville. Being able to drive to any of those cities in just a few minutes means easy access to the area's many special events. One such event taking place this weekend-the 10th Annual Old Mill Heritage Day-would be a great daytime outing for any of our guests.
Old Mill Heritage Day takes place at Old Mill Square in Pigeon Forge this Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Featuring live music, food, fun and games, demonstrations, crafts and storytelling, this annual event lets guests see firsthand what a typical day in the life of a Smoky Mountain pioneer might have been like. Craft demonstrations include making lye soap, sorghum and apple butter as well as cooking over fires with cast-iron cookware.
The day will include free guided tours of the 183-year-old Historic Old Mill as well as displays of antique engines and tractors. Live entertainment acts range from world-class bluegrass musicians to folk singers, cloggers, dancers and twirlers. There are also special activities for kids, such as a petting zoo, old-fashioned games, train rides, live music and an arts and crafts area. And if you're hungry, you can fill up on beans and cornbread, chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes, and potatoes and onions.

About Leif Palmer
Leif Palmer loves residing in the Smoky Mountains. He is an avid outdoorsman: rowing for exercise on the lake, trail hiking, and free climbing rocks in the mountains. He indulges his arty side by periodically beating up pieces of marble by sculpting. He is always frustrated by his inability to sink long putts, and hates his curly hair (but his wife loves it). Leif has been known to muster enough courage to change a diaper, and hopes his son will become a chip off the old block.
